there is a internal connection to ground and a good clean ground is mandatory for the
reg to work properly,it was found were the reg is mounted there maybe over time a
resistance build up at the mounting points ,the footpeg bracket to rear of frame,also
at removable rear frame bar mounting pivots due to corrosion and or paint build up. to
correct the problem starting with the 89 models they added a separate ground wire
mounted under one of the reg mounting screws and the other end to a bolt near the top
cover latch bracket, I haven't had a chance to look at the newer one's with the fins
is possible the ground wire is incorporated in the connector.
