NLegend,
Thanks for the update ... if you take a look at the microfiche at ...
http://www.hlsm1.com/hlsm2_cgiwin/yam_mc.exe?model_list
you can get a pretty good idea of how the cam chains are routed
without even having to have a service manual.
There are two chains and they have sprockets in the middle of the
crankshaft ... (as you have seen with the oil pan off), one for the
front, (even), bank and one for the rear, (odd). If they look so good
from the bottom that is not a good sign as you would think if one
broke or ran off of a cam sprocket that it would be sagging down
there, (there are cam tensioners in the valley ... one for each side).
Who knows .. perhaps one of those has trapped a chain. You can unbolt
the sprockets from the cams and see if that frees the engine .. just
mark the flywheel, cams etc .. so you can put them back where they
belong ... Anyhow ... if you look at the valve covers .. you can
plainly see the path between the intake and exhaust side of each head
... There is a sprocket on each cam, (intake and exhaust), and the
chain spans both of those sprockets.
There is a spur gear on the nose of the crank that drives the clutch
basket and the clutch turns the pinion shaft in the transmission. The
drive axle in the transmission is directly attached to the middle
gears that you were turning to make the wheel rotate.
I suppose ... a chain could be trapped ... or possibly a valve let go
and is wedged under a piston .. you will be able to tell this if you
pull the valve covers and loosen the chain tensioners ..........
If something doesn't turn up there .. then of course it means that a
rod or main bearing has a firm hold on the crankshaft or a piston is
frozen inside of a sleeve ... but this is pretty extreme .......... I
suppose you might still have something wedged behind the flywheel ..
Guess you will have to keep looking ...
I know you already have a reference on a service manual but you can
also order one online from Motocom .. they ship very quickly and it
usually only takes a few days for one to appear ......
http://www.motocom.com/ ... One thing I didn't understand .. you
said your plug was still kinda hot ??! because you hadn't fixed your
carb problem ... What type of problem were you having ??
good luck,
campbell
