Jacques,
Given your description, it really does not seem to me very likely that it's
electrical in nature. The big tip-off is the description of it losing power,
idling fine and then dying when you give it the gas. This is not how
ignition problems occur usually, but is highly suggestive of fuel
starvation. I hate to harp on it, but given that both TC and I independently
came up with the same idea, maybe it's worth taking another look. Have you
actually tried running the bike with the gas cap off while the bike has one
of its "spells"? Or run the fuel hose into a container to actually check
flow? Or made sure the fuel tank vent system was clear and unobstructed by
blowing through it?
Good luck.
