Fred,
My roommate has an 85 we have played with that same problem......clank....on
the up stroke of the fork tubes. I believe it is the preload on the fork
springs, if you have too much it will force the tubes out quickly and make
that clank sound. I fixxed Aimees by shortening the spacer length on top and
using 10lbs of air to make up the difference......This one you have got to
play with!
