Thanks for all the responses! I completely took off the electric shifter and
the rev limiter after work, I cranked the bike to let it warm up, after
about 5 minutes I got on the bike to ride and it started missing (running on
one cylinder) and died. It would then start back up but would only run for
about 10 seconds before it would start missing and die again. Here are the
answers to some of the questions: The battery is almost new, a Diehard for a
Goldwing (very tight fit after removing the battery box) has 13 volts fully
charged. The charging system is putting out 15 volts when the bike is reved
to 4500rpms. The bike does not make any popping (backfiring) before it dies.
I know only the number three cylinder is firing because before when this
happened I took each plug wire off and checked with a fresh plug, only the
number three was firing. I exchanged the #3 coil connection over to the
number one coil and then #1 was the only one firing. I have not replaced my
fuel pump or fuel pressure switch but I can hear the fuel pump running
(clicking, different from the servo for the V-boast) when I turn the key on.
The Headlight stays on when the bike dies and the ignition switch is not hot.
Additionally I have taken the switch apart and cleaned all contact points.
I do not think the vacuum hose for the vacuum advance is the problem though I
appreciate the suggestion. I have moved most all of my wiring away from heat
sources and found no shorts. I will check the kickstand switch ASAP, though,
the problem I had tonight was when the bike was in neutral as opposed to when
it usually happens which is under way. For recap; pick-up coils and ignition
coils both checked out fine while cold (I will check these with the bike hot)
and I have a new TCI, the bike is an 85. I am going on vacation tomorrow
night so I will have to try most of your suggestions next Tuesday. Please
send me any additional suggestions you may have. Thanks Again, Paul 85
