Paul,
I'm the guy with the same prob. Yesterday morning, I wrapped the radiator
hose going to the rear valve cover with a piece of reflective aluminum,
automobile-type windshield sun screen, held in place by a couple of plastic
tywraps. Then, I road around for a couple of hours. Twas a fine Spring day
here in Paradise (hotter than hell and twice as muggy), and I purposely let
her over-heat: 45 minutes on I-95 at about 100 mph (with no ticket, yet)
followed by an hour in Jacksonville's renowned rush-hour traffic, then,
just for good measure, I let her idle for 10 minutes during a draw bridge
cycle back here in Saint Augustine. No shut-downs, no sputtering, nothing.
I did pretty much the same thing today (since it was a little 'warmer'
out), and again, nothing. I wrapped the hose on only about 3/4 of its
circumference, leaving the visible part of the hose unwrapped, and on all
its length, down to the plastic cylinder head heat shield. Looks tacky as
hell, but if it nothing happens in the next week or so, I'll find a more
esthetic way of isolating the hose. My granddaddy used to say "faut pas
chercher midi quatorze heures" loosely translated that means "don't look
for a complicated solution to a simple problem". Hope he was right. I'll
keep you posted.
Jacques
