I want to thank everyone who responded on how to remove the clear coat and polish this part. I still haven't been able to find a used one. What I'm now writing about is the part failure itself. Less than two months ago, I had the mini-windshield off, and the crown cover did not have any cracks in it. I studied the nature of the crack (or should I say, tear) and have concluded that it was caused by the force generated by the mini-windshield via the mounting brackets. The brackets cause a moment (an axial force around a point, for the non engineers) where they attach to the crown cover via the alignment nubs on the crown itself. The nubs are actually there to align the turn signal stays. I believe this to be the case because the tear is in a down direction on the outside of the crown concentrically around the centerline of the turn signal stay. Now if I haven't lost everyone, the failure was on the RH side. The LH side is just fine. I've concluded there had to have been a hairline crack or a casting imperfection at that point in order for the 1/8" thick cast aluminum to tear like cardboard. The mini-windshield has been on my bike for the last 12k miles. There has never been any sign of failure at that point, till now. My question for this list is, has anyone else with or without a mini-windshield have this part fail in this manner? When I get a chance, I'll post a pic of the failure so you can see what I'm blabbering about. -- ============================================================= Vmaxman (Pasquale Dell'Aquila) mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Homepage - http://www.Vmaxman.com Last Updated 5/25/2000 1993 Yamaha Vmax 1971 Yamaha DT1-E 1984 Honda Nighthawk S 1971 Yamaha DT1-MX ============================================================= .............................................
