Hey Charles,
Hmm. Since I'm hoping to be in a similar position soon enough, I'll weigh in
with what I'm hoping to do...remember, opinions vary.
I'd buy a '99 Hayabusa or Blackbird. I haven't decided on which, since I
haven't ridden them back to back yet. The '99 Busa tested a little quicker
than the 2000 in the mags. They think Suzuki altered the control box to slow
it down. The Blackbird is a wonderful, smooth, fast bike, and down only
slightly from the Busa. I love the way it drives, and if you haven't tried
one yet, I'd highly recommend it, just for perspective. VMOA member Dave
Novotny has both a Max and a Busa. You there, Dave?
(I'm planning on spending some money on the Max also, as I've mentioned
recently. I'll put on a Two Brothers exhaust and a carb kit, as well as
Racetech emulators and Works Shocks and a Furbur frame brace, maybe solid
mounts and definitely a new seat.)
So...for the price of a stroker upgrade to the Max, I'll have TWO bikes, one
that will AT LEAST hang with the stroker bike at the strip and smoke it
through the twisties, the other that keeps all the Vmax virtues and improves
upon them.
Having seen Phil's bike in action, which is supposedly the highest-HP
naturally aspirated Max in existence, and another big stroker with chain
drive, I'm WAY impressed with what can be done with the Max by the guys at
PCW....
but they still are only just about even with a fresh-off-the-showroom-floor
2000 Hayabusa, and have really forfeited most of their streetability,
according to Phil. (Phil, correct me if I'm misquoting you.)
Good luck.
Best,
Sat Tara
