Don,
Have you done anything to your airbox yet? If not,
I would suggest trying a K&N filter and removing the "Y" before changing to
smaller jets.
You should be fine. My stg1 setup has a DJ175
main jet with K&N, Y removed, and Supertrapps. You can take a look
at the dynosheet at http://welcome.to/vmcs (click the
english flag, then "The Club", I'm member #56).
This sheet also has the fuel/air ratio and as you can see the bike
is just a little bit rich at low and high rpm's and actually a bit lean
between 7 and 8 K.
