Guys, thanks for the replies.

The reason I asked which unit I needed was because I
thought that the max had a strange ignition system
that used redundant sparks. Could somebody explain in
basic terms how my 99 max times the sparks for each
cylinder. I thought that all plugs fired every time
the ignitor unit was triggered. I believe my flywheel
has two trigger points to allow for the cylinder
offset. Would this not generate two sparks per
revolution? With no distributor how else can the
system work. Am I missing soemthing basic here?

Cheers

Steve

OK Steve,

I just ordered a unit for my 1999 Max and the one they
are sending is the: 980512P1/C.
(One way or the other you must state the bike you have
and the year).

It comprises:
    1 Control Unit "RC" type
    1 fitting bracket and strap
    1 bi colour led assembly
1 O&M manual on foppy disk
    1 Plug-in chip (VTAC 301)

It will work in our bikes once it reaches the red led
as if you had cut the ignition, orange will warn you
you are in the limit.
It can all be personally adjusted, but they offer all
technical advice you might need.

Steve,
According to the information I received from Charles
.. you need the 1
spark/rev model .. (they are monitoring one ignition
coil). The lead
you want to "tap" with their "blue" wire is "orange"
... The orange
wire starts life as part of a braided pair,
(orange/black), from the
pickup coil .. It changes to a plastic insulated
orange/black pair
behind the rear ignition coils ... (the only
orange/black single pair
connector back there). It continues on to the ignitor
plug ........
