Simon,
I'm not sure about the stress, but it makes sense, more importantly
without tying the rear of the motor in tightly to the frame I believe
you're missing a large part of the benefit the mounts supply. I have
solid aluminum in two of my Maxes (a la' Oldman Don Smith) One of them
only has 2 so far (lazier than you, ha ha!) and the difference between
the two bikes can be felt.
