even though this method is a little harder, with the proper tools is it any 
better ??

I talked to John Furbur recently and he's got a new twist on the method 
shown on the video and on Paul's site:  he says to install both nuts back to 
back, then the metal washer, then the cap (as opposed to
sandwiching the washer between the nuts).

The problem with this method is that it makes it extremely hard to hold the 
bottom nut from turning.  The washer inbetween gives that little extra room 
for
your spanner wrench
