Yes, there should be a rubber grommet on each side of the filter
element. Take a look inside the filter. On my last oil/filter change,
I discovered the grommet on the spring side was somehow forced into the
filter element. If you don't have access to a microfiche, go to
http://216.37.204.3/Yamaha_mc/Yam_mc.asp?model=12 and check "oil
cleaner". This is is HLSM's microfiche website.
