Welcome to the list,

First, check the list archives for info on handling. Don (Old Man) Smith
recently ranked the handling fixes for bang-for-buck. It's a good list. The
cheapest way to remediate the problem you've been having is to do the Furbur
Fix (described on Paul's web site). The advantage is that it costs almost
nothing. Then, the consensus seems to be solid mounts for the motor make the
most difference. Followed by Racetech Emulators and Works shocks.

Although I'm sure there are some Maxes out there with steering dampers, the
big rake and trail on the Max make them less useful than for sportbikes
where the fork is more up and down. Also, dampers tend to be pretty darn
expensive, and for a comparable amount of cash you can do several things
that will make for better results.

The bottom line is that the V-max has a geometry that is biased toward
stability rather than flickability. Dampers are most helpful for bikes with
the opposite geometry. The Max handling problems are more typically related
to the Flexible Flyer frame than dynamic instability related to fork angle,
which is what dampers are made for.

I'm sure you'll hear other opinions, however.

best,
Sat Tara
