In response to your comment about Yamaha voiding your warranty if you use
a Honda filter...THEY CAN'T!!!! After working in an auto parts store for
over 6 years, I became very familiar with the Magnuson/Moss Warranty Act(at
least I think that's the name of it...I've been out of the auto parts game
for a couple years, now). Anyway, what this act states is that no
manufacturer can require you to use their filters to satisfy a warranty,
unless they are going to provide the filters to you, free of charge. This,
of course, assumes that the filters you are using meet or exceed the
manufacturer's specs, which almost any filter on the market will do. I don't
know who makes Yamaha's filters, but I'm pretty sure it's not Yomama
themselves. I've never used one. IMO, the best filter on the market, bar
none, is made by Wix.
It's just my opinion, but I'm positive that someone can make a filter
comparable to Yamaha's and sell it for alot less. Yamaha is greedy,
especially when it comes to parts(all manufacturers are...did you ever price
parts for a car from the dealer, then at an aftermarket store?). No Yamaha
dealer near where I live is going to sell you any replacement part at less
than list price.
