Mounted to the inside of the left crankcase cover.

You'll need two gaskets, the crankcase cover gasket and the smaller
cover to the rear of it (don't know what it's called).

You'll lose a little oil, but you don't need to drain the crankcase.

For this, I'd recommend getting Paul's video on rebuilding the starter
clutch--the stator is in the same area.

But first, as someone else suggested, I'd make sure that the stator
really is the cause of your problems, and not the rectifier.  See the
