Christian,
IMHO ... if you have taped the lid and things are better then I guess
you are running lean. I assume you installed the air
restrictors/correctors in the main air jet at the top of the carbs
...... If you are weak from 4-7.5K RPM, (midrange), then I think I
would try a little more needle, (you didn't say where you had your's
set). I don't know what is going on w/ the European models but I
remember when Charles, (Spain), installed his stage 7 kit that he
ended up using an outrageous needle setting, (he was out at 4-5 clip
positions). He also had to install the DJ190 PAJ2 jets to eliminate a
rich low end, (secondary pilot air jets behind the slide rubbers),
which is pretty normal with wide open Vboost.
Unrestricting the carbs at the top screws with the air pressure ... it
makes it easier to pull air from the top of the carb instead of
pulling fuel out the needle jet ... It also allows air to enter the
main air jet at the top of the carb with less resistance and with this
increased air "leak" your main mixture leans out ..... Soooooo .. you
are getting the double whammy ... pulling less mixture out of the
needle jet and then what you get is leaner to boot .....
They fix the "new" low resistance problem at the main air jet with a
restrictor/corrector that has a tiny little hole and makes it harder
to pull air through, (or harder for higher pressure air to rush into
the hole ... whatever ... ). Then of course you put a bigger main fuel
jet in to make it easier to pull fuel out of the fuel bowl etc
...........
