Matt: I don't normally comment on these topics, but can't resist this one. If one lived by oneself, had no family and lots of dough (to pay the hospital bills or funeral costs) then I would agree. However sometimes laws exist not to control but to protect the idiots from themselves. Personal freedom is not a right but a responsibility. Wear a helmet if not for yourself at least for the ones around you. Wayne
We all have the choice to wear, or not. The only difference is we have different sets of consequences. Sometimes the consequences are a fine/ticket, sometimes it may be insurance not paying up, or it could be the result of dragging your face across 500 feet of asphalt and splitting your skull in two on a guard rail. Of course, the consequence could be looking really kewl and feeling the wind in the hair. We select the likely consequence by the choice. That being said, I don't advocate mandatory wear laws. We already have too much government control. Know the risk, make the choice. Everything is risk management. Hmm, I wonder if driving like a bat out of hell is minimizing the risk. What the hell!! It rocks!!!
