Well, I haven't taken a pair of pliers to mine...:-)

I used a piece of vacuum hose split on one side, folded in half, then
slipped it over the tabs that accept the guide loops. Keeps the cover tight
and prevents the metal-to-metal contact point on the guide loops.

I had the same problem with my '98 max, its not a loud rattle,
BUT DAMN ANNOYING....I beefed up some contact points with black
foam weather stripping (for house/window/airconditioners, not
cars) its real spongy and pre-glued on one side, comes in
different thicknesses and widths and CHEAP!! that helped, but
the most important tweaks i made, were to the mounts on the cover
itself. get some pliers and bend the 'C' channels to close their
gap, dont bend too much, do it a bit at a time, once you have
that feeling real tight, take your pliers and bend the little
wire looped guides that are below the 'C' channels. bend these
outward away from eachother SLIGHTLY, DONT SNAP THEM OFF, take
your time, dont wanna hurt max...you may only need to bend one of
them..

mine is rock solid now and i feel all tingly inside and my max
loves me even more......hehehehe
