Subject: Stuck Air-fuel Mixture Screw Hello all. I have a 1987 Yamaha YX600
Radian. All four air-fuel mixture screws were stuck in the
carburetors. I managed to work three out (Grip Doctor from Sears worked
great), and put in new ones after applying anti-seize compound (came with my
Supertrapps) to the threads -- they now turn freely. The fourth one
though, won't come out even after liberal doses of Gumout with Teflon. I
took it to a local machine shop who drilled a perfectly centered hole through
it, but didn't want to go further for fear of ruining the
carburetor.
Any recommendations? Is there a good
anti-seize/penetrating lubricant out there that I can use, one that will free-up
the threads/melt the matter causing it to stick? I plan on filling the
cavity/recess with it, letting it sit awhile, heating the area with a heat lamp,
and then trying an Easy Out. If that doesn't work, I may have to drill
increasingly larger holes until I can either break the (by now very thin)
"shell" of a screw, or drill just short of the threads in the carburetor body
and pick out the brass. Thanks.
P.S. Are there any shops in Michigan that
have done this type of work for a VMOA member?
