Oil Leak

[VmaxCBR900XR400]

I have an oil leak through the shift, shaft seal on my 1994 Vmax.  Has anyone 
else had this problem?  If so, can I replace the seal without removing the 
side case?

I have the full Yamaha shop manual and it is not very clear in this area.
