Greetings,
Ever since the return of my motor from PCW two nagging glitches have
developed.
First and foremost, a propensity for spraying an oil mist from the
breather tube at the top of the motor. This ONLY occurs when speeds are
over 85 or RPMS over 5K for any length of time.
Recall, I live in South Jersey, so most real trips require use of our
famous Turnpike. This is a high speed or super boring road. Which means
more than once, friends following behind have had their faceshields
fogged with 20W-50 pouring off my bike!
Other than mosquito control THIS IS NOT A GOOD THING.
Besides the mental stress involved it is destroying the new yellow frame
paint job!!
I recall seeing on a Stage 7 set up some hose which snakes its way over
to the oil fill cap. Any one know IS this a required mod on a 1500cc
motor? Can the tube and cap be purchased independent of the Stage 7 kit?
I THOUGHT I solved the trouble using a breather vented catch can from a
local speed shop typically used by junior dragsters at out local track
(Atco,NJ), but it can not deal with the volume during longer highway
blasts. {Interested in the set up check out page 43 of Summit Racing
Equipment Catalog that just came in your mail. What? Not getting it.
Great Xmas Gift wish list for the wifer . . .1-800-230-3030 ... it'll be
in the mail. Anyhow, at $29.00 it was $20 LESS than I paid for it at a
local speed shop!}
Enough advertising for Summit . . .I enjoy Jegs too!!! ... on with the
search for answers...
Friday I droned along our Turnpike between exits 3 and 9 for 45 minutes
and upon arrival at my destination had half a quart of oil
pouring,dripping off my motor and frame ! ! !
I am looking to The List for help.
The second issue I have suffered, for those considering PCW's 1500
Tourmaster, is a heat issue. Idling in summer traffic puts the needle
edging into the red if you are stuck for any significant time. Can you
say S-T-R-E-S-S It's bad enough anytime you get stuck in a traffic jam,
but it's like high school all over again when x-y-z car of the month was
prone to become an instant disabled vehicle in any stopped traffic! The
temp of the bike as you sit on it is noticeably higher as well.I hate
being the special of the day at my own barbecue!
First plan of action /reaction was to replace a perfectly good (albeit
14 year old) thermostat and temp sensor unit, use a bottle of Water
Wetter with 15% antifreeze . . . but the condition persists.
So far the only positive was getting pulled over for lane splitting log
jammed traffic and being able to point to a temp indicator edging the
red zone. Honest officer, I CAN'T just SIT HERE ...LOOK.
Credibility counts for something.
Short term analysis is horsepower translates to heat. Increase the
horsepower and you have to deal with the increased heat. I love the
horsepower, make no mistake about it, but if my bike is no longer able
to tolerate the time-to-time traffic jam (especially here in the land of
plenty) I am not a Happy Camper.
Sooooo....
Any and all suggestions desperately wanted to resolve these two minor
glitches. I KNOW there are Stage 7 folks out there who can speak of the
mystery hose. The traffic jam barbecue may be a bit more difficult.
