Kraig, have you tried adjusting the idle w/ the idle adjusting knob for
the mean time?  PCW recommends ~1300 rpm, I think to keep the oil press
up.

Another cause of your oil consumption could be the oil foaming up a bit,
crankcase pressurizing some, and oil/mist being spit up into your air
filter from your crankcase vent.  I use an unusual amount of oil on
extended highway romps as well.  Next weekend I'm going to install a
second vent that goes from the oil filler cap to the air box line.  You
may see some residue from this oil loss at the bottom of your air box if
the line isn't on tight (tough to do).  My carbs get a bit oily.
