After doing some reading this afternoon, I found this:

S&S does not recommend drag pipes because there is a reverse pressure wave
that propogates back to the cylinder, decreasing HP!

describes a modification to break-up that wave, and restore the lost HP.
Since the Cobras are not straight-though pipes, this mod would have to go in
the engine side of the slip-ons.

When I was looking for an exhaust, every person I spoke with told me that
the
Cobra exhaust, for some reason, is the only system that robs HP. That bummed
me out because I had my heart set on it. The guys on this list know their
shizzit, so if they concur on something, I will usually take their word for
it.
