Looking back, I'm pretty sure the Metzeler tire that I used a couple of
years ago was the 88, not the 880. It was a TERRIBLE tire. The Old Man and I
have gone back and forth about Avon vs. Metzeler for a while. I actually
held myself back from saying how bad the Metzeler was compared to the Avon
but it wasn't the same tire the Old Man was talking about. It was another
model of Metzeler. So I can't offer an opinion about the relative merits of
the 880 vs. the Super Venom, since, as it turns out, I haven't tried the
880. (Actually, I COULD offer an opinion, it just wouldn't be an INFORMED
one.)
I'll stick with the Avon, however, since I get them at close to dealer cost
and it's a great tire. I CAN offer an informed opinion about the Avon vs.
the Dunlops that fit the back. (They suck, either for tread life or stick or
both) and the ME880, which is even worse, although I didn't leave it on the
bike long enough to see how long it lasts.
