Out of state bike

Are there any differences,(cams, emission equipment) or anything else
different on Vmax's 1996 and up, that would cause me any problems with
registration if I buy an out of state bike? I live in California and I am
looking at some out of state bikes. I don't need any $$$$$ surprises!
