It's funny, some bikes run better on lower octane gas, while others are
happier on the higher octane stuff. (mine, for example)

I suspect that if your bike tends to be on the richer side of tune, the
lower octane gas will work better since it simulates a leaner mix and has
higher inherent energy potential than higher octane gas. If your bike tends
to be on the lean side, higher octane gas will help, since is simulates a
richer mix and offers a slower, more contained burn.

It's just a guess on my part, but I suspect that's why some bikes are
happier with higher octane while others thrive on the lower octane stuff.
