If you had auto-cancellation then you have a more sophisticated
flasher relay with a timer built in. To keep the flasher from being
released when you are standing still you must have a reed switch
somewhere, (this indicates vehicle movement). If the reed switch is
defective it could prevent the flasher relay timer from operating or
of course you could have a bad flasher relay, (as the timer and the
real relay are all built into the same unit). I suspect that on the
Maxim you might find the reed switch laying inside the headlamp shell,
(that is where it is on my Virago). One side of the reed switch should
be connected to ground and should read a dead short when the vehicle
is stopped ... and a slight resistance when it is moving ... (no
kidding ... can you believe this stuff ???!? .. sound like BS to me
..... ha ... ;>) ......
