A while back I saw a article (MCN I think) about a guy with a 900cbr he
commutes with. Had some UnGodly amount of miles on the thing (something like
150,000 or 200,000).
Engine oil??? 79 cent castrol GTX changed every 1,000 miles. Far as I know
the bike still going.

I read it also but my memory is not perfect so I looked it up. The article
in MCN, February 2000, just says he switched to the Castrol product after
reading the 1994 MCN article on oil performance. He rides 130 miles to work
every day. This is the ideal customer for durability, warms up well, as
opposed to short trips that build up all the moisture without benefit of
longer duty cycle that heats up entire power plant and drives off moisture.
MCN article does not say oil changes every 1000 miles. Current mileage is
240,000 miles, carbs never off, engine never apart. The bike was purchased
new on Friday 13, March 1992 and has been totaled three times with a couple
of other wrecks thrown in for good measure. The bike has also seen track
time at Willow springs, site of first major crash.
There have also been two articles in Sport Rider or perhaps Motorcyclist
about this long in the tooth CBR 900. I don't recall the 1000 mile oil
change, kinda thought it was more like 6 to 8 thousand miles (maybe more)
between oil changes.
Pretty amazing story.
