I sometimes feel like I'm "dogged" for owning an older Max. This is disinformation
from newer Max owners. The fork tubes can be raised on the 92/older Max's. The
top clamp on these models should be pulled, the air assist circlips and tube
removed and trashed, and allen-type set screws placed into the air assist holes
in the tube. If you have emulators and springs you don't need it anyway. I believe
the small holes need to be tapped and the use of a good threadlock is advised.
I did this many years ago on my 91' but have since put on lowered tubes without
the assist by "Franks Forks" in Indiana. The quality of his work is superb and
he is a fork expert. The 40mm tubes are less than half what OEM are (even with
a discount), costing approx $175. for the pair. He can custom make them for
you. Unfortunately, I can't remember his address or phone# and unless things
have changed he does not make tubes over 40mm. Can anyone help with "Franks
Forks" information?
