When I got my Vmax, it had that wonderful rush at 6k.  Then, when I had the
carbs off, I noticed a lot of slack in the cable, so I tightened it
properly.  After that, it had a much-more wonderful rush at 6k:) 

I'm not sure how often the cable requires adjustment, but it made a very
nice difference on my bike.
