First thought is to rewrite all the associated continue statements and insert the same assignments with each. But that won't work in general, because they might occur in a position where the loop variable is shadowed:

  for (let x = 0; x < 10; ) {
    ++x
    {
      let x = "boo"
      continue  // can't do "temp_x = x" here
    }
  }
