The first surprise, to me, was that this was hitting the array.js versions
of this code at all. The reason is here (from ArraySplice in builtins.cc):
// For double mode we do not support changing the length.
if (new_length > len && IsFastDoubleElementsKind(elements_kind)) {
return CallJsBuiltin(isolate, "ArraySplice", args);
}
