i've avoided this change for a while
the standard thing is to queue up all pending changes we want to make to
the api and do a non breaking api change first (duplicate apis), update
blink, remove duplicate apis in v8 - this process takes a very long time
anyway, i have a number of things that are related to this change that
should go in at the same time, so we need to coordinate
finally, you want to mention this one to the forum, because it will anger
lots of people
