         First- no such thing as a dumb question. You do need a circuit to 
the car battery- most RVs just run a wire straight from the trailer/car 
"pigtail" straight to the battery. The Airstream way was (fairly) typical 
over engineering with a separate fuse/feed in the central location.

         Depending on the new fuse panel layout- you could just dedicate 
one of the fuses as a "car feed", with an appropriate (~30 amp) fuse. This 
does hinge on the new fuse panel, though.
