It might be the gasket between the toilet and the floor (tank).  Airstream
used a rubber gasket which dried out.  An old time service mechanic (who
worked at the Cerritos, CA Airstream factory recommended using the standard
toilet wax seal.  Worked well for me on a 76 tradewind.
