Scott, the way it was described to me (I asked specifically), the bathroom sink drain was plumbed directly into the black water tank. There was no choice and nothing could be done to prevent it. It was supposedly just the sink -- not the shower or the kitchen drain. The guy may be full of beans but he's done a lot of RV repair work. Used to be an Airstream dealership.

On some Airstreams you can cap the outlet for the black tank leaving the tank valve open. The wash water (gray) would then make its way into the black tank. I do not know if the factory did this on purpose or if someone discovered it by accident.

....Incidentally, a local RV technician said that some trailers drained the bathroom lavatory water into the black water tank. Was this ever done on Airstreams?  Surely not. Sounds like a bad plan to me....
