My Dad would have had a stroke if he heard you say that.  The grease, over
time, gets grit and metal parts in it.  After a while it begins to act more
like a grinding compound than a lubricant.  I try to repack my bearings at
least once a year, whether the trailer is moved or not.

It may be overkill...but, I've been bitten once by the IH-40 monster and
don't want it again.

My 1976  Airstream Service manual says to remove the inner bearing and
grease seal, clean in kerosene, repack with grease and reinstall with a new
grease seal.

Is this overkill?  Or is it OK to simply repack the bearings (without
washing) and without replacing the grease seal?

How available [locally] are these grease seals?  Do most auto parts jobbers
or stores carry them?  If so, what make/model should I ask for?  Ditto for
the bearings.
