various non specific remarks and concerns. It does seem to me that the 70s
was a dark period for manufactured things in general

America was losing it's spirit of adventure and Quality. It's amazing that Zippo lighters and Levis survived the "plushing of America". One can only wonder what would have happened if aerospace company like Lockheed or Teledyne had bought Airstreams.
