Mats, I'm sorry you had trouble finding information. But if you click one of the biggest call to actions on the home page: "Getting Started", it has a "Why Vagrant" sentence in the second sentence. I'm not sure how much easier it can get than that!
Otherwise, if you feel you can make it better, the website is open source in the "website/www" directory. Feel free to improve and make a pull request for review. I'm happy to answer any questions along the way.
