Could anyone give me the quick story about what is necessary to use
OpenPGP on a Mac? I'm a Linux user (obviously).

GnuPG? Does that work with the "standard" mac mail client? Is there a
plugin? What is the "standard" mac mail client? Is there a prefered
alternative mail client (Thunderbird?). Is bash normally installed to
test out gpg? Any "PATH" tricks necessary?

I just reinstalled GnuPG (http://macgpg.sourceforge.net), and while some of its functions are clunky (it literally spawns a shell and shells out its interactions with the gpg CLI, which could cause mild "metaphor shear" for less-Unix-inclined Mac users), its overall functionality is pretty good.

I'm not sure that there are any hooks for it in Apple's "Mail", but there's a widget called "GPGDropThing" that does drag-and-drop encryption (and I think sigs) on files. And while there are, AFAIK, no direct Thunderbird hooks, there's enigmail, which seems to have the necessary .xpi for Mac use. I haven't started playing with it yet, as I'm having issues with my private IMAP server, but can let you know. Anyone else have any Mac-GUI-email-client-with-GPG experience?

Cheers,
