Does that include password entry? If so, this might be a job for
gnupg-agent (gpg-agent), which can integrate with various UIs. The
agent is from the newer version of GnuPG, but is often used together
with the stable version of GnuPG (for example, the "gnupg-agent"
package in Debian).

Let me know if you have anymore luck. Less metaphor shear is better.
