Doing a c/p on the gin.py code from FF into an xterm resulted in getting quotes-n-all correctly, whereas a c/p from the wiki page still mucks up the special chars. So, tentatively, I'm concluding that FF is interpreting the mime types and rendering an html file differently from say, a .txt or file; or what was produced by "Generated by GNU enscript 1.6.4."
