Gary, Btw, Google apps does have a free, unsupported version available. I have been using it for approximately 4 different organizations for about a year now. I have yet to actually need Google's support for anything, so I have no qualms about the lack of support for no cost.
For the person that simply doesn't have the bandwidth/hardware/time to run and admin their own mail server it's a really good option.
