I haven't succeeded in getting a virtual XP or 2000 Professional or XP Professional on kvm. XP won't recognize another Windows OS cd. Professional keeps looking for SP1a--which I have on the same cd, but which kvm can't seem to find, even though I keep trying to give it the path. And XP Professional hangs up--I've forgotten where.
So now I'm trying Xen, but haven't got very far yet. In the meantime the one computer that still hotsynced for me suddenly developed the same hangup as the others. Life is beautiful. Frustration is a way of life. It used to be the setting up of a network, but that got better as Windows developed, and in linux it's pretty easy. So now I get this one to take its place. KVM takes advantage of your VT extensions on your CPU (if you have them, otherwise it's that same as qemu). You can run it from the command line bye typing 'kvm' to get a list of commands, which will handle anything from network, sound and others. There is a virt manager for Ubuntu to GUIize KVM, and it's guide can be found at: http://tombuntu.com/index.php/2008/04/14/virtualization-with-virt-manager-and-kvm-in-ubuntu-804/ Good luck!
