Gary--

I'm off to B&N this morning to get a book for a trip we're taking next
week--we'll be gone on Elderhostel to Peru for two weeks--and I'll pick up the
Toolbook. Thanks for the tip.

Hi Warner,

I too am an old hand at DOS, but I've found that the commands in Linux/Unix are
way more powerful. However, it took me a while to get used to Linux as well.
The best learning tool I have is Ubuntu Linux Toolbox  from Wiley Publishing.
It is for an older version of Ubuntu, but it still serves me well, even with
other distro's. What this book and the man pages don't answer, I look for on
the web.

At the moment, "Barnes & Noble", in South Burlington, lists this book as "In
Stock".

Ron--

You suggested I run VirtualBox, and I'm doing it. It's easy and works
well--except for the very clunky USB connection I finally succeeded in making.
But I need one for trying to HotSync my PDA and so far I haven't been able to.
So I'm trying Xen or other virtualizers. I've discovered that Xen, kvm, and
Bochs are all available through Synaptic Pkg Mgr. So I've installed, only to
discover that they don't show up in Applications or System Preferences or
Administration. I take that to mean I have to start them from command line--but
I don't know how to do that. And perhaps there are some dependecies I still
need. The web sites look very complicated--line after line of command line
stuff.

I did DOS years ago and I can do simple command line stuff, but I still have a
long way to go.

Suggestions?

Warner
