Heh...you managed to pick on the one word of my email I struggled with..."mythology" is certainly not the right term, but I'm not sure what is.
I guess my problem with this attitude was that, in an article about the distribution which is doing its damnedest to turn the "rough around the edges" perception around, the author basically left the stereotype entirely unquestioned. There was no mention of the cases where it's not true, nor any exploration of the causes where it is.
