Nice thanks Rene.
I'll give it a shot.

Another option is changing your ssh client. I use SecureCRT from
VanDyke.
http://www.vandyke.com/products/securecrt/ - Costs $100

It has nice emulation of vt100, vt220, xterm, etc. That may help to
solve your vi issues.
It also has tabs for the different shells you've got open to various
machines, that's cleaned
up my desktop a lot.

   Thanks Flint.
Sadly for this one machine I do have to rely on the windows base.
For my other machines everything works fine and dandy. ;-)
On this machine I rely heavily on option 5 while using it.

   Dear Kevin,

Via a putty session (ew..w..:^) you got limited options since you
cannot display remote X-sessions. I would recommend the following:

   1. Either VIM(VI) or EMACS (Either case requires religious training)
   2. Reformating the system you are ssh'in in from with Ubuntu 3.
Booting off a Ubuntu Disk, ssh -X and remote gedit x term 4.
Pre-frontal lobotomy 5. Alchol or drugs

These later options should only be considered if you must continue to
   ssh in using putty.

   Regards,

   Flint

      Hi All,
What's everyone use for editing in ubunto?
I've always used vi in the past.
I'm having some issues using vi on ubunto 8.10 via a putty ssh
      session.
Though maybe I'd give another editor a shot?
      Tks,
      Kevin
