I use SecureCRT from VanDyke. http://www.vandyke.com/products/securecrt/ - Costs $100 It has nice emulation of vt100, vt220, xterm, etc. That may help to solve your vi issues. I would recommend the following: 1. Either VIM(VI) or EMACS (Either case requires religious training) 2. Reformating the system you are ssh'in in from with Ubuntu 3. Booting off a Ubuntu Disk, ssh -X and remote gedit x term 4. Pre-frontal lobotomy 5. Alchol or drugs These later options should only be considered if you must continue to ssh in using putty.
