Dear Zeb,
The deal with Fairpoint (ne Verizon) is that at the start of service they
insist that you use a browser that supports Active X. During the Verizon
Fairpoint sale, I got lucky and raised a stink about this to the Public
Service Board. The result is that you can request the PPPoE initial
credentials from the DSL setup tech if you know to ask. Thus I have been
able to support many Verizon/Fairpoint DSL turn ups for economically
disadvantaged folks and non profit groups (at $14.00 per month for
something that approximates Internet connectivity, well my name is -
Flint :^).
That said, as usual, I need to tip my had (a fedora?) to thatitguy, Mr.
Rubin Bennett for his continued inspired insight and leadership in the
area of state telecommunications. The general public, legislature and the
craft unions should be at the doors of the Public Service Commission with
torches and pitchforks for perpetrating the fraud that is Fairpoint. By
this simple minded act of greed and bribery, Vermont as a state is sent
further back from the goal of ideal connectivity, and the economic
development that such telecommunications facilities would promise. In
addition Barre Vermont is saddled with the prospect of completely tearing
out the Verizon/Fairpoint outside plant mess that disgraces our streets
and replacing this legacy horror at our own civic expense.
Rubin Bennett, in his awareness and illumination of several sinister
elements - Outlook and Fairpoint - does VAGUE proud, and I can only hope
that his intellectual charity continues to arrive to inform and empower
each of us. Rubin Bennett I despair, but I thank you for your talent and
insight.
Now if you will just get off this RPM kick...
:^)
Kindest Regards,
Paul Flint
