Hello VAGUErants,

Last night I had the pleasure of attending the Burlington City Council
meeting (the one where they went through 14 voting rounds and still
couldn't decide on a council president). Mayor Bob Kiss gave his State
of the City speech. He mentioned the "Open Government Committee" and
talked about "build[ing] a more uniform, responsive and user-friendly
City website that will keep you better informed about public meetings
and how you can participate in the process of government."

His speech got me thinking - I wonder how much the mayor and city
council really know about open standards, free/open source software,
and open licensing? I wrote a blog post with some specific advice for
the city website that focuses on these concepts which, in my opinion,
are inline with the goals of open government. I'm looking for feedback
to improve these suggestions before forwarding them on to the mayor
and my city councilors. If any web folks would be so kind as to take a
look and provide any feedback, criticism, etc. that would be greatly
appreciated!
